My Best San Diego Marketing Company Secret Sauce: Deeper Relationships

When I started Revvia Marketing + Video 2 years ago, I spent time with my initial sales prospect and was stunned by one fact that came up over and over again:
Most of my sales prospects (and eventual clients) were paying thousands a month to marketing firms and didn't meet with them. At all.
Most clients were lucky to have the cell phone number of their account representative, but most didn't. Most were given a support@marketing.com email address or a support line that rung an out-of-country line to get simple things like websites changed.
In fact, one of my longest standing clients signed on with us after not being able to reach their nationally-ranked marketing firm to change a typo on their website header.
Dozens of phone calls and emails - no response. He was just put into a support queue and told it would be fixed.
With Revvia, it was fixed in less than 5 minutes.
What I learned early on as a marketing firm owner was that my success didn't just come from putting together great posts or ads, but from having deep relationships with my clients through weekly meetings.
Over time, our best ideas and most golden opportunities have come from the serendipitous relational moments where we say "woah, wouldn't it be cool if we...?" that would never happen without regular relationships.
One of my favorite marketing ideas that came from a "wouldn't it be cool" moment was the concept of Lady Mob, a video series featuring the Blue Collar ladies of a local drain company called Drain Mob.

Our goal with Drain Mob is to position its branding as one of the friendliest and safest drain companies here in San Diego County. With Lady Mob, we're able to showcase that Drain Mob cares about safety and understands what it's like to be a woman calling a drain company because they've been there!
Here in 2026, my goal as a business owner is to continue the trend of deeper relationships with my clients and value those moments in relationships that can come up with marketing ideas that end up changing the trajectory of their business success.
What are your goals this year?
